Removing an existing group
If a group has nontrivial material of any sort (source code, bug reports, etc.), we will not remove it from Savannah. Only essentially empty groups, or those approved by mistake, will be removed.
If developers wish to move continuing work off Savannah, various changes can be made in the Savannah group to minimize confusion, for example:
- change group description to say it's moved;
- change group status to Undefined;
- set tracker access level to 'Nobody'.
Administrative steps for removal
The technical steps may be incomplete; use your and other Savannah admins' experience.
- Make sure the request is valid:
- it comes from an admin of the group and the group is empty or its data is available from somewhere else, or
- it originates from the GNU Project and was carefully considered.
- Ask group admin about deleting the mailing lists.
- Mark it as deleted in Savane.
- Move repositories to backup area (probably somewhere in ~root of the vcs machine).
- Remove mailing lists if needed.
